An afternoon experience

The sound of silence

Like a paper thing it moves
through lazy summer skies
and the silence follows it
everywhere it flies.

As quietly as a shadow
this seeming lifeless thing
is carried by the wind
and moves on silent wing.

Like all of its surroundings
this awesome bird of prey
leaves no place for words
and takes the breath away.

It circles once again
and still I watch it there
this lovely sound of silence
that moves upon the air.
