Wrote after a trip to the Avebury stones in Wiltshire |
| Ages I stand upon this hallowed ground, I feel the breath of ages, Of history gone before this time, A thousand voices in the pages I reach, I feel the indefinite space The levy strains against the years, So many lives have travelled through, Journeymen of the human race. Here in peace the clock ticks on, The sun keeps moving across endless skies, And like all of you once so young, Soon too must I be gone Do not fear the coming the flood, wash away this endless toil, Only to spring new life again, Risen from this silt soil. |
