They say the things that happen define who you are
I say they define who I don’t want to be
People look into my eyes and see something real
I look back with discontent
Who to believe in
It’s a question we all ask ourselves
I only believe in myself

They say the things that happen define who I will be
I say they define the pain that I feel
The hurt is like a shadow
That follows me everywhere I go
Who to believe in
It’s a complicated thought
I don’t believe in anything I was taught

They say the things that happen should be left in your past
I say they define what I carry with me now
The trail behind me has many twists and turns
It’s hard to keep my eye on the road ahead of me
Who to believe in
It’s often something I ask
I believe I’m here for a task

They say the things that happen will alter your path
I say they define how timid the steps are that I take
There is nothing forgotten and left in the past
I forge forward to the ultimate goal

Is it someone above
I happen to be a fool that believes in love
