| SOLE Wispy winds whipping, sweetest scent of peppermint mixing in the air. An amorous aroma, as adventure waits ahead. Confluent water, bonding the earth and the sky. Emancipated, taking the form of the rain. One lick tastes like bitter tears. Spirit of the earth, Gaia, nurturing nature— her soft touch beckons, velvety, lighting our path. Clutched earth beats within my hand. Fire crackling, I hear unvoiced screams from the ashes of the past, rising. Scattered voices, united, set into smoldering flames. The four elements, merging into one body— A sight to behold. “At-one-ment”, the Lord decrees. Sins forgiven, lives renewed. What is a Tanka? --Tanka is a poetic form that requires 31 onji, and is divided into 5 lines of 5-7-5-7-7 onji each.
