A Sincere Apology

I have done a disservice.

I'm sorry that we've steered you wrong,
and led you to believe,
That many things within your life
will come to you with ease.

I'm sorry that we've protected you
from harm you should have felt,
because by now you should have seen
the hand you might be dealt.

I'm sorry for the wrong we caused
by being too involved.
We've not let you grow up and learn
some problems aren't resolved.

I'm sorry we always told you that
every thing will be OK.
It could not be farther from the truth
in life from day to day.

I'm sorry now to force you into
growing up so fast.
But now you must go out and face
your challenges at last.

I'm sorry to wait to now to say
you only get one chance.
You need to try your hardest
under any circumstance.

I'm sorry that I never saw
my own reflection in your life.
I hoped you were not like me and
would not suffer the same strife.

I'm sorry we waited until now
to give you this advice.
But now, my dear, you must be told
you don't get to go through twice.
