The Real Me

Loneliness fills me –
No matter who is around.
To truly connect with someone
-anyone-
Could possibly change that.
A true connection with another
person could be what it takes
To fill the void within me.
To have someone
-to share-
What is truly on my mind
And what is truly in my heart.
Instead, I hide my true self
From these people who can
See the outside of me.
I become somebody completely
Different and separate
From whom I truly am.
That way, the
Real me
Will never get hurt.
The real me
Will never be in harm’s way.
The real me
Stays protected.

The real me
Is lonely.
The real me
Is almost
Non-existent.
