Why Does the Pain Creep up Inside

Swelling in my heart

Why does the pain
creep up inside
swelling in my heart
and tears that I must hide

If I could wash the sorrow
from her heart
erase the feeling
so it would not start.

Must I show her how
to build  a shell
the only way to
keep her feelings well

And yet the years 
have taught me not to hide
then we cried
because her bunny died
