Every night I whisper
The painful words I wish you knew
The words that once
Kept us together

It is because of you
That I am how I am today
It is because of you
That I now keep things so hidden
It is because of you
That I often cover my true emotions
It is because of you
That I am afraid to speak
What is truly on my mind

The words may not seem like much
But they mean the world to me
Reminders me of how you felt
An eternity ago

Do you remember those times?
Do you remember saying those words?
Do you remember the connection we shared?
Thousands of questions cloud my mind
And I wonder
Am I ever on your mind?

As I write them in the sand
The waves wash over them
And the painful words I wish you knew
Swept away into secrecy

Now the only place they remain
Is inside my mind
Inside my heart
Wishing you could hear
The silent screams they form
