reflection on xmas

downtown

i walk the streets
    alone
the store lights
bright,
xmas, i can't believe
december is here again.
bells ringing
people singing
smiling faces,
  reflections of santa
      HO HO HO
my feet are hurting
my stomachs turning
people rushing
who did i forget?
gifts all wrapped
i guess we're all set.
across the street the cafe's full
  smiling faces
        stomachs full.
the lights downtown go out
stores put up closed signs
i walk the streets alone
    HO HO HO
the bars are full
my legs are aching
head is spinning
i guess it's time to go
another night
downtown
                homeless.
