THE TENDER SHOOTS OF GRASS Walk softly amid the row of crosses, step lightly on the tender shoots of grass. Here we sleep in silence, never knowing that it was you who would quickly pass. Think of us not here, but on the 'morrow when the dawn breaks, when eagles fly, we are not earthbound, but soaring skyward. We were soldiers, much too young to die. Turn away from thoughts that drain you, as the number of simple crosses grow. So many lost for God and our country, for the peace on earth we hoped to know. Let your hearts heal, no need of weeping although bitter tears may start to fall. Into the light we have bravely traveled, each one of us answering His call. Walk softly amid the row of crosses, step lightly on the tender shoots of grass Into the light we have bravely traveled, we are no longer here - but home at last. Countrymom 2/7/2010 Edited 2/25/13 |
