New Year Dreaming

New year dreaming is special to a writer.

I think of all the places I would like to go
Climb Kilimanjaro and wallow in the snow,
Journey to India, wonder at the Taj Mahal,
See the Dalai Lama, visit the shrines in Nepal.

New year dreaming, I'm making all kinds of plans,
The Times travel section has warm beaches and sands.
There's the Riviera, then the Champs Elysees,
London has Big Ben, fjords in Sweden and Norway.

Someday I may be able to do all those things.
I'll just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings.
Today I'll be content to travel through my muse
Writing about Tibet but stuck in Syracuse.

The marvel of the mind can take you anywhere
And on writing dot com, through forums, you can share
All your new year dreaming from Rome to Aberdeen,
Italy to Scotland, everything in between.

All of us are lucky with our freedom to fly
Anywhere, anytime, unlimited by sky.
Writers' new year dreaming is different from the rest,
Transported by our words to lands our minds suggest.
