Sleepless

I simply couldn't sleep

Indigo dawn,
The city still sleeps;
I simply could not.
Eyes stinging with fatigue and unshed tears,
I write brackish words.

The city lights;
The city asleep.

Cerulean fanfare;
Daylight will soon rear it's fiery mane
Over the horizon.
A smattering of voices from the sidewalk below.....

I rock myself gently and close my eyes;
I don't feel so alone anymore,
As the city awakens.

Day breaks, and I finally sleep,
Dreaming of quiet cities and leonine sunrises.
