The End of Day

What happens when the day ends

THE END OF DAY
August 15, 2009

The day is packing up
and leaving,
slinging it’s backpack
over its shoulder,
not making a sound,
like the day before it
and the day before that
and I listen
but it doesn’t say good-bye
it just lifts its coat tails
as if not to trip
and runs and runs and when it
gets to the corner
I keep watching
but it doesn’t turn
or look back and wave--
It just gets dark.
