Procession of sleeping shadows

Did he die or is he sleeping? Which one is the correct way to go?

His soul set sail
on an ocean of death
pushed across the void
by its Frigid breath
past this harsh reality
left behind cold nightmares
and bitter memories

Nothing remains nothing lives
nothing he had but all he'd give

men are born men will die
into the ground beneath the sky

He died in his sleep
eyes toward a falling sky
gazed out to the void
his body ready to die
calmly leaving this fleeting dream
forgotten thoughts faded
sailing away it would seem
