written for my little sister when we were teenagers .

Only yesterday you were a baby...

your hair so soft and light ,

your chubby little hands gripping my fingers tight.



I held you when you cried...

your pudgy little face all twisted and stained with tears,

and I, never dreaming we'd lose all those years.



Only yesterday you were a baby...

always by my side,laughing til we cried.



I chased you through the fields...

your small singing voice the most beautiful sound

and your little feet never quite touching the ground.



Only yesterday you were a baby...

crawling in my bed late at night

just to get warm and have me hold you tight.



I watched all the hope in your eyes and the dreams in your heart...

never knowing we'd soon be apart.



Only yesterday you were a baby ...
