Whatif?

What whatifs do you have?

Last night while I lay thinking here,
some whatifs crawled inside my ear
and pranced and partied all night long
and sang their same old whatif song:

Whatif my mom moves away?
Whatif my life ended in a bay?
Whatif my older sister lived her life?
Whatif we never arise from this strife?
Whatif heartbreak is all I'll get?
Whatif I become a vet?
Whatif I don't make it to heaven?
Whatif I won the lottery, lucky 7?
Whatif my best friend died tonight?
Whatif height wasn't my frieght?
Whatif I never existed?
Whatif my body became sickly twisted?
Whatif I didn't try so hard?
Whatif my family died or starved?
Whatif life was easy?
Whatif riding in a boat didn't make me queezy?
Whatif the sky was mine?
Whatif I got a special valentine?
Whatif I had a twin?
Whatif I was thin?

Everything seems swell and then,
the nighttime whatifs strike again.
