Night Walker

just wandering in the dark with my puppy

Late night walking with my puppy,
we are serenaded by those unlucky
enough to be chained or fenced.

If it wasn't for a sliver of moon
the black silence would only be broken
by the music of a car racing
along the far-off highway.

Brakes and tires scream
as the driver is greeted
by the flat mock twinkle
of nearly unseen deer eyes.

It is safer down here
in the dark.
