| All hail, the prestigious torch-bearer, On his or her shoulders, the weight of the lighted scepter, On a brief trek beginning thousands of miles away – Proud men and women restoring The brightest flame to its saintly home. The flaming scepter, A symbol of historic activities and accomplishments, And the reduction, or absence, of fear By the superior and trustworthy warriors In the immaculate world of sports. The greatest obstacle, having no fear Of the somewhat obvious and apparent limits To the individual prowess and gains being sought – Bearing the proud torch with calm And without reservations For the gripping and tumultuous phobias Plaguing all humanity, In our eager and obvious attempt to say, “I can do anything – yes, it can be done!” For with fear, one loses the momentum, And sometimes, the spirit, To quench the insatiable desire Which all human beings have, To reach and go beyond one’s limits To achieve the unthinkable! |
