"He created them male and female; and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created." Genesis 5:2. According the Council of Macon, France 585; the Adam could be used to designate a woman, but must exclusively be used to designate a man. The dogmatic question of whether a woman has a soul was left open. It was clear from Sacred Scirpiture that a woman was created, but for Adam's use. She was not autonomous. He named her as with all the other beasts of the garden. The animal's soul is not like man's. Man comes from God, made in the image of God. A woman from man. The animal's soul is dependent on nature. A man answers only to God. "The Lord said; thou shalt be under thy husbands power, and he shall have domion over thee." Genesis 3:16. The Council of Macon concluded that a woman's soul was more like an animal: better suited in the service of a man. Tis the curse apon the girl, To be blessed with Heavenly bliss, To think of God and obey their man. Reflections: This theology could lead to a speedy divorce. :) |
