Hollow Heart

The first couple lines got stuck in my head and I just had to use them.

My broken smile grins
but nobody knows
my hollow heart beats
but nothing flows.

I feel trapped here,
stagnant in time,
my soul mired down
in the muck and grime.

I go about life
and lie to the world
while my whole existence
is coming unfurled.

Yet, no one can know
the pain inside.
Not a person can glimpse
the hurt I hide.

So, my empty smile grins
