This is a poem that has been written for a contest. |
Willow’s Long Wait The young woman stood by her window to see if Her husband returned from his trip far away. The wintry night was silent and cold and She wondered what caused his mysterious delay. A wolf walked along the small clear path. He came to the door and looked all around. He whimpered a cry that froze her heart still. She knew a soul had gone, that was once earthbound. Her table was laid with a cold untouched meal. The white candle flickered a small, soft light. A wooden chair held an old waiting cat. The baby’s blue rattle had rolled out of sight. Poor Willow would weep all alone in her house. Her pillow would see many warm tears so wet. For after a hero saved five friends in a battle, His heart found a home for a cold bayonet. |
