At the circus, the performers are celebrating Manny the Clown's birthday. Suddenly, the lights go out. When the Ringmaster finally gets them back on they find....

Tears of a Clown

Brilliant light filling the room,
faces were  frozen as if watching a fall.
No nets there surely spelled doom.
Red shoes filled with nothing at all.

From circus to circus, as Carney lore goes,
eyes squinted looking into a halo that night.
They gazed upon an angel with red shoes round her toes.
The smile upon her face was a sheer delight.

She had come to see Manny, her dearest friend,
bringing unseen gifts to a clown, on his special day.
She softly whispered into his ear; “I’ll be here to the end”
Manny then knew, tears of joy were here to stay.
