When a child has been as mean as you think they could possibly be, and they turn around and smile at you, it's loving you can see. Working with special children has shinned a light on me. I've never smiled so much or been so frustrated. But when I see them smile, frustration doesn't last as long. They are slow at learning and it gets to a point when you think they'll never learn. But then when they surprise you, it makes you feel all warm. To think you've made a difference, even if it is just one child, it helps me to know why I'm here, and why I'm still trying.
