My relationship with the sky |
| Celestials Sitting, far away from home in a classroom scented with the kerosene soaked chammys we used to clean the blackboards, I saw a loony moon. Driving Home from a prairie wedding dance, the car almost stalling in the crackling cold, curtains of shooting colours singing, We idled the car and watched for hours. Standing, In the field far from the house lights My daughter and I tracked Kahoutek; It was the only thing we could stand to do together. Slouching, In the dark on the deck in an Adirondack chair, With only a cigarette, Thighs numb with cold, Oscillating pinpricks of light And a silver dime of moon In my constant sky. |
