People often say I'm strange
because I think differently.
They often laugh and talk about me
but they don't know me.
They don't know my pain
or share my joy.
I am but a single person
one grain of sand.
I am not in search of acceptance
yours doesn't matter.
I just need to know myself
and what my needs are.
Your thoughts are your own
you can share them.
My thoughts are mine alone
I need to share them.
Your rights are not greater than mine
you are no better than I.
I know my hearts deepest desire
can you say the same?
I may never change the world
or even my community.
I can make a difference though
by being who I am.
I know who I want to be
and how to be it.
