Alone

Hmmmmm....perhaps I shall sleep with the lights on.

Alone I wait...
Depraved, embittered, utterly alone.
Sorrow creeps in on the wings of night,
Lurking in the shadows,
Stealthy as a predator.
Gradually sanity fades...
Till it is naught but a dream,
There is no salvation to be had.
The candle flickers...
"Soon" it seems to say...
The light will not long keep sorrow at bay
Icy fingers grasp at my heart...
Squeezing out any warmth,
Crushing love, breeding fear
The candle flickers and goes out...
