Thoughts on the spoken word

The written word is there to see,
you have it forever to keep near thee.
But the spoken word goes into the air,
it goes in your ear then it's no longer there.
Words of love are often spoken
but are they just a simple token?
Promises that will surely be broken.
Do you speak the truth when you say you care?
Or are they just words floating in the air?
Do you mean it when you say you're sorry?
Or are you just trying to get them to forget
that you were so haughty?
Think the next time you go to speak,
think of the havoc that you might wreak.
