The Attempt

just a poem i wrote when i was going thru some tough stuff in my life

the chill cuts to my bones
as i reach for the cup
to drink down this poison
swallow it up

i listen to the sound
of the falling rain
think of drowning my life
and ending this pain

i pause for a moment
my hand starts to shake
consider the choice
i'm about to make

suddenly throwing
the glass to the floor
it shatters to pieces
i bolt for the door

into your arms
i fall and i cry
only you could see
i was living a lie

you hold me for hours
never letting me go
'till my sobs start to fade
and sleep pulls me below

running a gentle finger
down the side of my face
you return me
to your solid embrace

anchoring me down
linking me to you
unmaking the pain
something you alone can do
