In Her Shoes

This was written for my best friend, and the heartache she has sustained.

Deceit is all around me
Deception and dread fill my senses
Like a caged animal
My soul fights to be free
Branded as another’s property
I bare my penance
Forever trying to escape
The darkness closing in

My fears and doubts
Cling to me like chains
Weighing down upon my soul
My scars, the silent witnesses
Telling my story to all
Though my body fails me
My eyes still burn
Strength and passion return
Rushing through my veins

The pain cures me
