A reaction to a relative who died with Alzheimer's. |
| 9/27/06 Darkness and Light The darkness creeps in like a lion ready to pounce on its prey; It doesn’t die, it only cries. The darkness envelopes the wounded prey like a heavy shroud; It doesn’t move, it barely breathes. The darkness now covers the prey like a cocoon covering a butterfly; It doesn’t sleep, it can’t think. The light creeps in like a gentle bird on the wing shining on the prey; It doesn’t open its eyes, it just lies there. The light of the sun explodes like a giant camera flash surrounding the prey; It doesn’t react, it struggles to breathe. The daylight covers the prey like a warm fuzzy blanket; It doesn’t feel it, it no longer breathes. The light surrounds the prey like a giant spot light; It doesn’t do anything, its spirit has taken flight. The darkness creeps in again, like a thief in the night; It doesn’t move, it’s finally free. |
