ANOTHER NEW YEAR!

Written for Stormy Lady's Newsletter and Poetry Contest using word prompts

ANOTHER NEW YEAR!

This will be my seventieth year of celebration,
a welcome to another countdown for a new year,
heard amid much loud laughter and cheers
with car horns blaring, the message very clear.

We all tumble head over heels into the future
with New Year Resolutions, good intent often broken;
lists of things we hope to change become confetti
as we shred them, never again will they be spoken!

I have given up on resolutions, instead each day I try
to include a little laughter within my life and will
try to spread a little bit of cheer to those I meet
on life's pathway, 'til I go and the bird's song is still.
