Lonely Vigil

I watched the sun come up
This morning
Again…..

The sky was beautiful,
As it always is that early,
And now that Spring
Is on its way,
The birds helped me
Keep my lonely vigil.

I thought of you as
I always do,
Hoping you had slept well,
With your dreams pleasant...
Wondering if where you are,
The sun was peeping over
The rim of your world, too.

Hoping you’re not alone,
As I am alone….
That you have someone to hold you,
Love you,
Help you through your day.
Yet the thought of you with someone else
Is unbearable to me.

If I close my eyes
Tightly enough
I can see you in my mind
Sleepy-eyed and vulnerable
As you always are,
That early in the day.
And I smile,
Through my tears,
…….. remembering.

I miss you, my love,
Not just at sunrise,
But in every part of the long
…..long day.
