Don't get too close to me...

Don't touch me.

If I let you come close to me,
I may have to relate to you.
If ever I let you know me,
I enable you to hurt me.
And I fear knowing and hurting
Are more than even I can bear.

Yet, as I stand here alone, cold,
And surrounded by the darkness,
I fear this pain may be worse.

Touch me.
