A dream turned nightmare |
| Last night, I had a vision A dream customarily bizarre, About a world my mind contemplated, And the land of Reality was way off far. Every eye was free of tears, I was greeted with “I care.” Smiles were pasted on every face And happiness was everywhere. There were no slums, barrios or ghettos No zone, sector or division There was no such thing as HUD And knowledge came without television There was no famine, plague or epidemic No poor, rich or elite There was no such thing as IRS And debt and money were obsolete There was no gender, creed or race No alliance, group or coalition There was no such thing as KKK And beliefs faced no inquisition. There were no casualties, hostages or prisoners No war, conflict or insurrection There was no such thing as POW And everyone participated in election There were no offenders, defendants or convicts No prison, jail or rehabilitation There was no such thing as BOP And morality was an aspiration This morning, I had a nightmare Unfortunately, a recurring event My eyes open to the sunlight, And again a world full of discontent |
