Blanketed in shadow

A single bird

Flies overhead

A twig falls from its mouth

A single star

Shines overhead

It twinkles in the sky

Clouds drift together

Forming a bond

Right above the star

And all is dark

Once more

From traces of sun

Come flecks of light

Beneath their murky depths

You see the gloom

Behind the brown

The grief

Below the grey

You see a light

Too tarnished, marred

To ever shine again
