What does it mean to be Black and Suburban?
It's not understanding your own people
Not knowing who are your own people
Not speaking the same language
Not sharing the same values
Not having the same culture
Having a semblance of an identity
Trapped between proper and pop
Not really belonging to either
Wanting to be urban
Yet enjoying what is rural
Yards, quiet streets, endless monotony
Monochromatic yet colorful
A dash of pepper in the salt shaker.

What does it mean to be Black and Suburban?
It means being two things at the same time.
