What is trust?

Everyone says trust
must be earned.
Tests passed before
its gain. If this is true
then we are born
untrustworthy, liars
and thieves, all of us.
I say trust is a gift
given freely and those
who have never recieved it
are the thieves
that steal your trust
and laugh at the hole
left behind in your heart.
