Bad Habit

It was learned in childhood and won't go away.

It was learned early in life
This habit of loving
Loving with all my heart
Given freely
It was a joy to love and care.

Part of the lesson was missed.
Loving does not guarantee love.
Caring does not guarantee care.
What is taken is not a gift.
What is given is not always reciprocated.

Not to be cared for,
But cared with
Not to be strong for,
But strong with
Love that builds with,
The habit learned early in life.

Standing alone
Wondering, questioning
Pie crust promise,
Easily made,
Easily broken
Loving is a bad habit
I can't seem to break.
