WITHOUT A BREEZE The air hung heavy, without a breeze to stir the leaves or fan the grass; Life itself was motionless, the sun blazing down, baking the earth. People looked to the sky for relief, for any sign of clouds and rain; Animals lay panting in elusive shade, preserving strength, even as it ebbed. It is only a lull before the storm, dog days of summer come too soon. There will be a roar of thunder bringing with it a flash of lightning. Nature hides its mysteries well, as we on earth endure the changes. Countrymom 3/28/06 |
