Led On

A girl is betrayed by someone who gave her the wrong idea about their relationship.

It seems the air has darkened between us
Like a thickness has spread in our space
There is no longer that simple sense of us
that used to draw so plainly upon my face
Instead, it draws intricate loops, sharp edges
of anarchy in emotion that run into my pores
Showing us falling off pedestals, hanging from weak ledges
Keenly aware that we can trust each other no more

And so now what it feels like
is too far from what it was like
And I wonder what it was
that changed our “is” to a “was”
And how I should react
when all I want is you to come back
Even though I have lost my faith in you
Despite the fact that you break my heart
I cannot seem to get my mind off of you
Wanting desperately to go back to the start

Yet, I must accept the past in its definition
There is no choice but to pretend to have moved on
For if you see me in my true condition
You would regret leading me on.
