Just A Cat

Fourth place winner in the Children's poetry contest! Also my first free verse poem.

A loud crash awakened me in the night
I sprung out of bed to switch on the light
slinking slowly to the parlor frozen with fear
thinking to myself what on earth did I hear

a potted plant laying helplessly on the floor
and a shattered vase right next to the door
then out of the corner of my eye what did I see
but two mysterious green orbs gazing up at me

there sat the creature with great regal poise
the one who made that loud chaotic noise
the green eyes glared up at me as if to say
Don't look at me like that after all I am just a cat!
