A child should never wear shoes before they start walking. It's best to let the baby walk barefoot for one to two months before deciding on a hard-sole shoe. Even then, the shoe must be flexible, have a good clasping system, and must be fit to the foot. Grow room is sparse as the child is still learning some balance; no more than half inch (15mm) from the toe to where the toe can grow up to.
