A descriptive poem about the San Antonio Riverwalk. |
The great San Antonio River, Outlined by uneven cobblestone. Heavy bridges loll sleepily over ancient waters; Contented chatters and loud restaurant shouts echo; making awkward silences less uneasy. Familiar cultured eateries filled With unfamiliar faces, Illuminated by candle flames, All enjoying the gentle lure of splish-splashing waters. Feel the squat river, below the city traffic, Dwarfed by skyscrapers stretching to the heavens; Like a child reassured by their parents’ towering shadows. Then, further skyscrapers fade to memories, Replaced by fantastical moss-covered paths that muffle the world. A lilac scent arcs over staircases to La Villita; A tiny village whispering of forgotten histories. Shops of handmade goods attract the hotel dwellers, Who inhale graceful river breeze. |
