Hello everyone, I’m Samberine Everose and I'm here, one of the regular editors in the Romance/Love Topic of the WDC Newsletter, and just like I've been saying, I will not be tired in expressing my thankfulness to all the beautiful people here in this wonderful community of writers for not only helping us to improve our writings but giving us also encouragement and inspiration every day.
The most common way we express our love is by saying "I love you." However, there are deeper meanings hidden within those words. In this week's newsletter, we’ll explore who truly loves us the most. |

You needed me
I was working on my assignment for my online studies, then I heard a song that reminded me of my elementary school days,
and this song triggers my memories to return to what made me curious about this song when I was still a kid.
The song I'm referring to is a famous one sung by Anne Murray, titled "You Needed Me." What intrigues me is how the singer expresses that during her difficult times, there was someone who supported her and helped her find her way back from her depression. However, I find it interesting in the part of refrain that instead of stating that she needed him, she asserts that he needed her. This presents a contradiction or a twist in the lyrics that makes me think.
This made me curious and motivated me to research and learn more about the song to answer my question. I feel that its themes could inspire a beautiful love story if we adapt what the song reflects.
I discovered that the composer is a male and most of his work features lyrics and music characterized by a motif of brokenness, similar to the blues genre. Themes such as heartbreak and sorrow are prevalent, and you can find more information about this online.
However, as I dive deeper into the lyrics of the songs while listening to them, I begin to see an image of the love that God has bestowed upon us.
Just like in the part of
I sold my soul,
You brought it back for me.
And held me up and gave dignity,
And turned my lies back into truth again
You even called me friend and
You put me high upon a pedestal so high that I could almost see eternity
And It's only God who can able to do those things.
At the end of the text, it stated, "You needed me," instead of "I needed you." In simple terms, this means that God needed us. As I reflect on these words, I realize this reflects the intrinsic nature of God as a truly loving being. God truly needs us because He is Love.
Love is not truly love if it isn’t expressed or shown, or if it remains hidden. The love we hold in our hearts can be meaningless if we don’t share and express it.(1 Corinthians 13)
I remember the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God created humans and provided all their necessary needs, stating that humans are His masterpiece, made in His own image and likeness. In this way, we are different from how He created the angels.
God created Eve for Adam because He knew that Adam needed someone to express His love. In the same way, God created us out of love. We need others, and we need the source of love; it is in this connection that we find completeness.
In the last part of the song, the singer expresses her feelings about how foolish it would be to let go of someone who truly loves us. She sings,
"I needed you, and you were there. I'll never leave. Why should I leave?
I'd be a fool, because I finally found someone who really cares."
Once we truly understand and recognize the greatness of His love for us, it would be foolish to desire separation from Him or to distance ourselves from His presence.
In conclusion, the song "You Needed Me" can be interpreted as an expression of our love for others and for God.
And I reflected God through this song, realizing that He needs us because He loves us and continues to love us. He does not expect anything in return; as long as we have the chance, He will keep drawing us closer to Him for our own good. This is part of His nature as a loving God.
But humans sometimes he only love God when times that he needed Him.
