Mr. Lear ![]() How it all started. ![]() |
Hello Ah, September! ![]() ![]() Your poem was featured in my "Read & Review" section here and it gave me a smile so I thought I'd give you a review. Happy WDC 22nd Birthday celebrations! INITIAL IMPRESSION / OVERVIEW: You wrote a humorous limerick poem. You kept me riveted throughout and made me read straight through to the end. MORE DETAILED FEEDBACK: I loved the rhymes you picked, especially, "laughs" and "gaffes." Your poem was nicely written, made me smile, and was interesting for me to read. Your poem reminds me of some Mr. Lear types I've known. I liked how you structured your poem, within the looser/general limerick guidelines. Some people adhere to the stricter ones and, I admit, when I judge my own Lucky Limerick contest, if it's close to decide between winners, I go with the one who uses the stricter guidelines. But when writing, I like the greater flexibility of the looser ones. I didn't notice any spelling or grammatical mistakes (or mistakes of any kind) in your poem. The picture you chose worked well for your poem. IDEAS TO MAKE YOUR PIECE STRONGER: In the spirit of helpfulness, I have a few suggestions to make your piece's details even stronger. 1. Maybe in the notes state that it's a limerick. This is optional of course, but for readers unfamiliar with poetry, it could be encouraging. 2. I'd take out the "invalid item" contest reference (I'm guessing it was totally valid when you wrote it!) and just replace it with the name of the contest, if you happen to remember it as having "invalid item" doesn't really add anything. I probably have some of these myself so am making a mental note to go back through old writings. 3. It's less relevant for this item because its Quills have passed, but for future writings, I recommend selecting options for all three genre categories as it increases your chances of winning a category award, should your item be nominated. CONCLUSION: You wrote a funny limerick poem that I enjoyed reading. Well done! Thank you for sharing your poetry with the Writing.Com community! May love, joy and peace be yours in abundance!
