Welcome to WDC! I am happy to do a review to celebrate you!
Wow! This is a moving and potent tribute to a soldier. Your images and emotional tone are so vivid that the sad but honouring vibe exudes from the page as I read. It really touches the heart.
The composition is solid too in 4 stanzas of quatrains with excellent rhyme and word choice to create a soundscape and flow that is a pleasure to read aloud. While the rhythm is not always even in the lines, it did not detract from the read or potency of your message. Alliteration, assonance and consonance elements are well applied especially in the first verse which hooked me into the piece. Brilliant work!
The image of the wife and the son "snap in salute" is endearing and sad. The last line is evocative too. Chilling. I think you need to put quotations around "Angel on Board" with a comma to show the angels are speaking. The two parts as they stand seem to run together.
Impressive weaving of words and theme for an emotional effect and thought provoking message. Very honest and heart felt in the stark reality.
