Greetings, Ken!
This is pretty good for one of your 1st pieces on here, and as far as it being prose, I'd say it's more like a combination of both prose AND poetry.
I like how you go into the emotions and senses with this, and it's no wonder that you're a published author. I've got several short stories published, but I have yet to write 'THE BOOK'.
Great spelling and telling, but I think I might have seen one niggle (or maybe 2, but the same one):
'We have but one chance(,) you and I(,) to do this.'
