Bonjour, Crow!
You might not believe this, but before I even read about you in your portfolio I was going to mention that this piece almost sounds like a sermon! Seriously!
But it's a nice 'sermon', and your analogies of being 'in between' were well put. I think we're all vulnerable to the 'dark side', and I also think that a lot of us have had bad intentions at one time or another, but thankfully most of us don't act out on them.
I write horror, but I'm also a baptised Catholic (although I'm not as religious as I should be anymore), and to write about terrible things like monsters and devils and everything else that scares people could seem kind of hypocritical of me. But it's not like embrace things that I write about, it's just that I think some people (a lot more than will admit it) like to be scared sometimes. And if I can do that with my writing, then that's what I'm going to do!
Sorry, I digress.
Yes, I can relate to this 'in-between' place perfectly!
And that last line of yours says it all!
