Hi there. Nixie, here. Although we've never 'met' your account anniversary seemed a good time to introduce myself. Writing anniversary reviews is similar to celebrating with the author. I have my own little community of members I know, it's a treat to travel to an unknown sector of WdC.

Overall Impression
I read your warning about the possibility of your stories being outdated, but that didn't hold true for this one. Relocating a family is a universal topic, irregardless of time.

A few thoughts
Your fictionalized true story in a few places matched one of mine. Mostly, I related to Kevin's antics, so reminiscent of my son's. Because of those experiences, I knew exactly where to find Kevin when he vanished, and I knew why he went there. My son loved hiding from us, and one time we had to call the police. Just as they arrived, and I darted out to the cruiser, here comes my son strolling along, curious as to why the cops were there. So embarrassing.

Another time when he was only two, he was watching us from our neighbor's hedge while we ran around calling his name. To this day, he still defies gravity. And now he has a daughter, who is exactly like him.

Sorry. I didn't mean to go on and on about myself. Your story was so intimate and personal, I fell right into it and then shifted over to my life. I loved the beautiful ways you found to express loneliness and regret. The most poignant scene was the husband and wife in the kitchen on moving day.

Lasting Impression
My family had no trouble transitioning from our 900 square to 2000. But I had three children by then. The last was unplanned, so my nineteen-month old daughter was moved to a regular bed so my son could have her crib. The first few weeks, I often found her sleeping under a chair, the legs comforting her like crib rails. Talk about mother's guilt.

And there I go again, off into my world.

Your story was a joy to read and I loved the way the words delivered me back into my own past, full of regret and delight. An excellent write!
