![]() ![]() ![]() There was a great mixture of action and character study in this story, as well as detailed descriptions that made it easy for the readers to picture the scene. While I appreciated the plot and the imagery, I found the interaction between the characters and especially Luke's thoughts particularly fascinating. By the end of the story, I almost felt I knew him personally because you gave him such depth. His voice, which was highlighted by the difference to the other two boys, gave the story a certain quality that would have made it worth reading even if nothing had happened at all. Of course, a lot did happen. What started as a curious investigation took a dramatic turn, and it was interesting that they walked away thinking that they had not discovered 'the truth' although they had learned something different and far more important. The description of the forest was incredibly eloquent and came as a bit of a surprise because I hadn't expected such detailed descriptions either from the main character or in this type of story in general. At first I wondered why you had included it but then it became clear because the contrast to the way you described the pit was very well done. It almost feels wrong to mention errors in such a perfect story but since I only spotted a couple of minor ones, I thought I'd point them out: On a few occasions in the speech, you used "its" instead of "it's." I understand that the boys used slang and ordinarily that's not a problem, but there is no audible difference between those words so I'm guessing it was a typo and not done on purpose. a sense of reverance - I believe it should be "reverence." There were a lot of elements that made this a great story, in my opinion. I thought the way you initially introduced Luke and then showed how his background influenced his perceptions and actions was excellent. The boys' conversation about 'the truth' was very intriguing, too. I'm sure it's quite obvious by now but I loved this story and I'm really glad that I came across it today. ![]() ![]() ![]()
